Global 50 Law Firms:  The List Changes

The Global 50 law firms are increasingly referred to in place of the Global 100, since the difference in size, breadth and reach of those at the top end of the Global 50 law firm list are very different than those in the bottom end of the Global 100.  Law firm managers use the Global 50 list to look at the winning practices of those who are leading the industry in global growth and profitability.

Surprisingly, the list of Global 50 law firms can vary based on the resource consulted – PLC’s Global 50 is quite different, for example, than the Legal Business Global 50 list.  This is mostly due to differences in methodology for compiling the list.  What is important when trying to understand the winning strategies and management approaches of the Global 50 law firms is to recognize that most firms have a handful of strengths and also a number of weaknesses.

A list of Global 50 law firms gives only a one-dimensional perspective.  What is important is to understand more about both global and local aspects of each firm’s strategy and practices, management style, diversity, client relationship management approaches, and other factors important to competing with other law firms on a global scale.
